Some conspiracy theorists have formed today online in the boxing sphere with both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao posting the exact same type of videos at pretty much the exact same time on their respective Instagram accounts.
Mayweather has been a man known to use social media as a tool to gauge public perception and reaction to potential fights over the years it should be said.
Just two days ahead of his 42nd birthday he’s back in the boxing gym in Vegas working on the heavy bag:
And, so is 40 year old Manny Pacquiao:
Both guys are obviously well past their best at this stage but the lure of a possible final big pay day this year is surely too strong for either of them to turn down.
As well as a chance to set the record straight to the world after their disappointing fight back in 2015 that didn’t live up to the hype.
They can say whatever they want in the media but money talks at the end of the day.
I’d be shocked if this rematch doesn’t happen.
Mayweather recently won an exhibition bout in Tokyo on New Year’s Eve but you’d have to think with his ‘Money’ nickname and all, that temptation of a significantly bigger pay day for a rematch with Pacquiao will be too much to resist.
The same can be said for Pacquiao who recently returned to the ring with a unanimous points win over Adrien Broner.
All in all, expect some more game playing and messing around on social media from Mayweather before his next announcement regarding whatever form of combat it might be.
Whether another exhibition or a real fight with Pacquiao.
