Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has had a classy response (on the whole) to his previously scheduled opponent for June 1st Jarrell Miller failing a pre-fight drugs test.
2019 has not been a good year for Joshua so far having had numerous fights collapse in front of his eyes.
A Wembley stadium fight back in April fell apart after Dillian Whyte refused the offers he was given to rematch Joshua.
Then June 1st against Jarrell Miller at MSG was scheduled only for Miller to now be out of the fight and likely looking at a ban from the sport for a significant period of time.
It is thought that Andy Ruiz could now be the front runner to step in at the last minute for Joshua on June 1st but Joshua himself is remaining coy on the subject.
Speaking on his YouTube channel he had the following to say on the Miller debacle and what is next:
News of his next opponent could come later today or tomorrow by the looks of things.
Whoever it is expect Joshua to go into the fight a heavy favorite amid what has been a complete mess of a year for him so far.
As things stand in the heavyweight division at the moment, it’s all about the second half of the year really — with all the top fighters not fighting one another so far in the first half of the year.
Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury all box in the coming couple of months and should they all win their respective bouts– one would be hopeful that at least one big fight between two of the above names can be made before the year is out.
It would salvage what has not been a good start to the year for the heavyweight division or boxing as a whole so far as regards big, super fights getting made.
Boxing needs to do better than it has been doing this year with it’s pay per view and super fights.
Particularly after a great two years we’ve had in 2017 and 2018.
