WBC heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder has his sights firmly locked on a rematch with English rival Tyson Fury next February following his big knockout win this past weekend against Luis Ortiz.
Wilder and Fury fought to a draw this time last year.
Since then talks of the rematch have come from all corners of the boxing universe.
Fury in fairness has had a quiet year relatively speaking.
In terms of level of opponents faced.
Ticking over and expanding his profile in the US mostly, as well as a WWE appearance.
Whereas Wilder to his credit has scored another big win over an avoided fighter in Ortiz.
That said, Wilder believes that compared to Fury, he’s fought much better opposition.
Many boxing fans seem to be in disagreement with him on that remark so far however:
There does seem to be a growing amount of Wilder vs Fury fan online sentiment since their last fight though:
Ultimately, the rematch will settle all of this.
It is thought that February 22nd is the anticipated date for the rematch but as of yet no formal contracts have been signed or official announcements made.
Online reports this week suggest that Wilder won’t be going back to training camp until the end of December which would make a February return and big fight promotion between Fox and ESPN a quick turnaround time.
Expect news in the coming weeks.
