The boxing world is still coming to terms with not only a big upset this year but also the passing of the guard from old lion to young lion in the lightweight division.
American Teofimo Lopez tore up the script this past weekend beating former pound for pound heralded Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas.
Indeed, most pundits and commentators going into the fight favored the more experienced Ukrainian technician.
Lopez had other ideas.
Former pound for pound kingpin Andre Ward being one of the many who called it wrong:
Fair play to Ward for holding his hands up there.
Can’t get them all right.
Particularly in a sport like boxing where so many variables come into play.
That’s why its the best sport after all.
Huge kudos to Teofimo Lopez, his father and team for what has become one of the great stories in the sport this year in another wise bleak time.
