Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez who is now a free agent fight to fight has confirmed his first outing of the year.
It came right at the very end of the year mind you but understandable due to his situation and the world situation.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the following:
Venue to be confirmed but some have suggested Texas as likely due to some crowds being allowed in the State and with Alvarez’ huge following there.
Good fight too.
Smith is a very big puncher and a big super-middleweight who will enjoy a lot of reach and height on Alvarez.
The main thing the man from Liverpool will need to watch out for here is the body shots of Alvarez I suspect.
Good test for Canelo overall.

Smart move too from Canelo in my view business-wise.
He is testing the waters on a fight by fight basis it appears with the various networks.
Perhaps it would be advisable to see how much he earns and how much numbers each network do for him for his first three fights as a free agent.
Then if he wanted to pick one to end his career with on a long-term deal after testing three of them say, he might be in a better position to see which one suits him best.
As for the fight I think it’s solid.
Caleb Plant would have been good too but there’s no reason why that fight can’t happen in the new year.
All in all good to see boxing’s biggest star in America back before the end of the year.
