The dust is starting to settle on this past weekend’s Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr boxing event that took place in California.
Why they bothered with California baffles me but nonetheless a great event all around the entertained the masses.
Legit boxer Badou Jack appearing on the card catered to some of the hardcore boxing fans but it was all about the main event that transended the sport.
Two legends past their best but put on a great show and raised some money for charity.
Indeed one legend of the sport from the same era as the two combatants had his say:
Hit the nail on the head there really.
Anything that expands the boxing audience and geogarphy while done in the appropriate manner only a positive thing.
Indeed world famed rapper Snoop Dogg on the commentary team proved an outside the box big hit with many.
Good to see boxing continue trialing new things in a time where hopefully outside of this more of the legit match ups between the sport’s top champions will be put on.
Matched in their primes.
That in itself will grow the sport of boxing but until that happens on a more regular basis these type of events are required to grow the sport to the more casual audience.
With the caveat that they are not world championship boxers and more entertainment spectacles that have been taken deadly serious in terms of preparations and health protocols alike.
Respectful of the sweet science.
