Undefeated young boxing sensation Ryan Garcia is on a roll, fair play.
Kudos and credit to the kid, he done good last year and certainly proved his heart in his first real acid test against the UK’s Luke Campbell.
But all this talk, not just of him either, but also some other undefeated young fighters in the sport, needs to be tempered just a tad perhaps.
Now, someone like Teofimo Lopez on the other hand really proved himself pound for pound in the mix last year it should be said.
He actually took on and beat the pound for pound don at the time, according to many, in Vasyl Lomachenko.
Also Gervonta Davis’ knockout of Leo Santa Cruz spoke for itself.
Something that had never been done to the incredibly tough Santa Cruz before.
However, talks of Garcia getting in there with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao might be a bit premature.
In terms of how has he earned the right just yet.
He’s still very young and needs another solid fight like Campbell at least, surely.
If he were to get flattened by Pacquiao quickly it would have been a mismanaged career.
Tim Bradley speaks the truth here on Fight Hype YouTube (hat tip) on the subject:
He’s so right on so many things there.
On so many levels.
But for balance, Bradley should know as well that the whole social media thing is part of the hype train in boxing now.
In the modern era that is.
Plenty to look forward to this year for Garcia and many of the other young guns on fire in the sport at the moment.
What a time for the new generation breaking through in boxing at the moment.
Great to see.
