Ah yes, many boxing fans will remember Vitali Klitschko’s career in the ring fondly.
An unorthodox style but very effective.
Many thought he was winning his fight with former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
Before the bout got stopped on cuts.
A big puncher who could take as much as he dished out and a great champion.
Like his brother Wladimir Klitschko to be fair.
Two great champions in the sport’s long history of heavyweight champions.
Two great ambassadors for the sport, moreover.
These days older brother Vitali Klitschko is involved in the world of politics as the Mayor of Kyiv in his homeland of the Ukraine.
After leaving boxing Vitali Klitschko helped found the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in 2011.
Subsequently he then got involved in work in his own country of the Ukraine.
He sent the following message to newly elected President Joe Biden and to the United States on his official social media channels:
“President Joe Biden speech at Munich security conference powerful support of Ukraine’s freedom and territorial integrity against aggressive Russia.”
Era, whatever about perceived conflict and tension outside the ring — this guy could really fight inside the squared circle.
Here’s a stroll down memory lane in one of his fights in a memorable night in heavyweight boxing history:
