Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir made his boxing debut at the weekend’s Jake Paul event.
He lost a unanimous points decision to Steve Cunningham.
Many will remember Cunningham for dropping current lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury many years ago when Fury was up and coming.
Following the boxing debut some questioned boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya’s commentating on the fight.
Indeed, Mir decided to take the high road and posted the following which has won positive sentiment:
Moreover, many have expressed concern for the former world champion’s health in recent years.
One would hope he has the right people around him. De La Hoya has spoken about a return to the boxing ring himself in recent times but it seems unlikely at this point.
As for Mir, whether or not he returns to a boxing ring, it remains to be seen.
One thing however looks likely, as we predicted on here recently, is that, more MMA fighters will likely try their hand at professional boxing.
As for Cunningham, at 44, perhaps another entertainment-driven fight like this could be in play at some point.
