There seems to be some back and forth in various quarters about what constitutes these days being an undisputed world champion in professional boxing.
A new saga in boxing if you will.
Largely this has been brought about due to fiasco of a situation that exists with so many different versions of world titles in boxing today.
In some respects, it is a positive thing as it gives more opportunities to the fighters.
But when it comes to defining what is an undisputed champion it makes things speculative.
Consensus would say you need the four main world titles to do so, but, this is hard to achieve in today’s times logisitcally.
To get all four organizations to sanction a fight for all the belts happens rarely.
Josh Taylor managed to do this recently and made boxing history.
Others believe three out of the four belts is undisputed now.
Current pound for pound star Teofimo Lopez has hit back at some critics in this regard on social media:
“Maybe if you all (WBC,WBA,WBO,IBF & RING) would show respect to me as your “Undisputed” World Champion then I will show you all the same . Till then enjoy the show JUNE 19TH!”
He takes on George Kambosos next up.
After that, some big fights will surely be in store.
