Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has made some changes ahead of his latest fight this summer when he takes on lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for a third time.
The main one being to his head trainer.
Not many realize his new trainer is a former opponent in Malik Scott.
A man he knocked out in 2014 but subsequently the two became friends after their fight.
Something that happens often and is not talked about enough regarding the sportsmanship in boxing.
Scott was a serious fighter himself having only ever lost as a pro to Wilder, Luis Ortiz and Dereck Chisora.
He retired in 2016 with a record of 38-3-1-13 KO.
Scott also comes from a tremendous amateur background, like Wilder, and, this could prove key.
Working on Wilder’s technical ability these past few months quietly behind the scenes has been evident in their work so far.
More thought will be needed in a fight that not many are giving him a chance in against Fury.
Fury knows better though.
He knows how dangerous Wilder is and anyone that punches that hard can never be written off.
