Mexico has produced some of the great boxers in the history of the entire sport of boxing.
Professional boxing, the highest level of the sport, that is.
You only need to go back a few years and even look at today’s recent uncertain times to see what Mexican boxers are all about.
A rare and unique breed.
Today, many believe Canelo Alvarez to be the number one pound for pound fighter in the sport at this time.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is regarded by many as the greatest Mexican boxer to ever live but after his bout with Camacho Jr. reportedly the legend told Canelo in the ring:
“Thanks to Canelo. Here you have the best Mexican fighter today, possibly the best in history.”
To which Canelo reportedly humbly replied:
“You’ll always be the best.”
Very good.
No doubt Alvarez will try to give him a run for his money with his boxing legacy in the years ahead.
A lot of work ahead to do that, though.
