This weekend undisputed lightweight women’s champion and former Olympic Gold medalist Katie Taylor returns to action.
Always in fun fights to watch with an exciting fight style, Taylor looks to make the fifth defense of her WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF belts in the UK against Jennifer Han.
Taylor will be expected to win in style and if she does, calls for a long awaited showdown with another all-time great in women’s boxing, Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano, will no doubt come.
The two have appeared to be on a collision course for some time now.
Serrano won again at the weekend just gone and has spoken of how talks with Taylor are ongoing.
The key to the fight happening will be an impressive win by Taylor this weekend.
Then, potentially a mega fight between the two can happen before end of year.
Serrano has a lot more experience in the pro ranks than Taylor but Taylor has that outstanding amateur pedigree.
And, is clearly focused ahead of this weekend’s fight in the UK:
Amanda Serrano is a world champion in a total of three combat sports.
Not just boxing.
She has also won titles in far more weight divisions in boxing than Taylor. It would be a very good fight indeed.
The story line of a Taylor vs Serrano fight would be genuinely compelling with Taylor having beaten her sister earlier in her career.
A good clash of fight styles too.
All in all, Taylor vs Serrano and Shields vs Marshall, both before the end of the year, would be two fights of genuine interest for women’s boxing that would grow it.
