From a world championship boxing perspective, you only have to look at recent years when Andy Ruiz became the first Mexican heavyweight champion of all-time.
Shocking the world against Anthony Joshua in their first fight in New York to capture the title.
But it happens frequently at all levels in heavyweight boxing.
Recently, something that went under the radar a bit, but certainly shocked many in boxing, was the knockout of New Yorker Michael Coffie (12-1-9 KO) in Newark by Jonathan Rice of LA (14-6-1-10 KO).
Coffie had been tipped to be a possible contender for the title in years to come but Rice tore up that script at least for now with this:
