Women’s boxing great Amanda Serrano was not able to secure the knockout last time out.
Rather getting the decision in Cleveland by unanimous decision against Yamileth Mercado.
Speaking on ‘The Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer’ Serrano said:
“Yes (she was tough). You know what, Mercado I guess listened to her corner. She did her job. She didn’t want to engage with me. I thought the whole plan was in that fight was we were going to engage. She changed it up. It was a great performance. I was glad it was on Showtime pay per view.”
Serrano now holds a professional boxing record of 41-1-1-30 KO.
A fight with Katie Taylor next year would likely be a big one but obviously Serrano being a three combat sport champion, with huge exposure this year, and a seven weight professional boxing champion, will need to get paid appropriately.
As will Taylor.
This fight and the Shields vs Marshall fights in the new year could help grow women’s boxing, most likely.
