David Benavidez impressed once again with a stoppage over Kyrone Davis a couple of weeks ago.
A win in Arizona that took the former champion’s record to now 25-0-22 KO.
It is hard to believe Benavidez is still only 24 years of age.
Not long ago the youngest world champion in boxing no less. Something rarely highlighted at the time.
Only to lose his belt on the scales before a fight. Not in the ring.
He’s been gunning for the shot at pound for pound number one Alvarez for some time but with Alvarez set for a tilt at a cruiserweight title next year it could be some time yet.
It isn’t inconceivable that Benavidez may need to follow Alvarez to 175 pounds or more one day to land that fight.
For now we’ve put Benavidez in at number 10 in our pound for pound rankings but his potential has much more in the near future.
