This week we had a chance to speak briefly with world lightweight champion Devin Haney’s training team.
Speaking to Boxing News and Views team Haney mentioned he could already be in line for a unification fight with new champion George Kambosos in the new year and that talks are underway.
With that being said the aforementioned came with a huge caveat.
They made it clear that Joseph Diaz this weekend is first and foremost their total and utter focus as the job at hand.
Team Haney mentioned that if their man gets his offense going early and puts together what they are working on in the gym — that fireworks should ensue — with the best of the champion on display to date.
The bout takes place this weekend in Las Vegas for Haney’s WBC lightweight title.
Haney undefeated in 26 professional fights. Diaz with just the one defeat in 24 coming to Gary Russell Jr. a few years back.
They were under no illusions however about what Diaz brings to the table and are expecting a tough fight.
