Gervonta Davis was given a solid fight tonight by Mexico’s Isaac Cruz.
A close, hard fought battle that Davis won by decision in the end.
After the bout undefeated rising star Ryan Garcia and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya called out Davis straight away for a fight on social media.
Davis responded:
Speaking in the post-fight press conference Floyd Mayweather (who fought De La Hoya and won on points when they were active fighters), promoter of Davis, shot down the above.
He mentioned that Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe tried to make the fight but claimed Garcia didn’t want it.
Citing interest in a Pacquiao exhibition fight at the time.
Pacquiao has since retired and with Garcia looking for a fight again it could make a lot of sense.
Great clash of styles, buckets of speed between them.
Great story line between Mayweather and De La Hoya too.
Once boxing rivals now promoter rivals of two young stars in the sport.
Davis vs Garcia maybe one for 2022 for sure.
Would be huge.
