It’s almost time to see Florida’s Keith Thurman back in action against Mario Barrios this weekend.
Always a big fan favorite with heavy hands and a come forward style of combat, Thurman returns on February 5th in Las Vegas after preparation now being complete as he looks to bounce back from a narrow split decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2019:
The world situation of course has happened since Thurman last fought so will be interesting to see what tools, attributes and artillery Thurman (now a great commentor) has been quietly working on since 2019.
Furthermore, the clash of fight styles with Barrios should be a treat for boxing fans this weekend.
Also this weekend you have the Shields and Eubank fights in the UK of course.
Back to Las Vegas though, Thurman’s card also has Mexican boxing legend Leo Santa Cruz returning this Saturday.
Popular fan favorite and multi-weight world champion Santa Cruz fights for the first time since his loss to Gervonta Davis in 2020 and takes on Keenan Carbajal this weekend.
Some news has also come for the card however a short time ago.
Rising unbeaten star Jesús ‘Mono’ Ramos competes against contender Vladimir Hernandez this weekend.
Ramos (17-0-14 KO) has had a very exciting start to his career and some big things by some seem to be tipped for him.
Certainly a strong card this weekend now with a great mix of champions, challengers, contenders and prospects.
Also Abel Ramos takes on Luke Santamaria at welterweight on the card.
And the co-main event sees Ryan ‘Cowboy’ Karl and Omar ‘El Relámpago’ Juarez compete at super-lightweight.
Here is some of Ramos’ more recent work against Mendoza on PBC last year:
In some ways the new year for boxing really starts this weekend.
