Pound for pound lists are only ever to be taken with a pinch of salt.
That said, fight fans enjoy them.
Mexico’s Canelo Alvarez no doubt can go back to pound for pound number one with an impressive win over Gennady Golovkin next up.
Former pound for pound number one Andre Ward brings up a good point here:
Of course you also have the likes of Tyson Fury and Alexander Usyk who have been going up in the pound for pound rankings recently.
And Dmitry Bivol and Errol Spence after impressive wins lately too. Amongst others.
The competition in boxing at the highest level is so intense at the moment.
It’s great news for fight fans really.
The margin of error is so thin at that highest level.
At that elite level of top ten or even top 15 or so.
So, when you consider this era, compared to even Ward’s era, the pound for pound competition and rankings are even more fierce than ever in many ways.
This could in fact be one of the best eras ever for pound for pound boxing generational talent across the world in many years.
