Canelo Alvarez has been followed around for some time now by a die hard boxing fan wanting the David Benavidez fight.
Going into Cinco De Mayo’s big Munguia fight this weekend Alvarez spotted the fan with the Benavidez sign again – mentioning:
‘The fan that had the sign outside there about David Benavidez — he’s been there since the (Gennady) Golovkin fight clearly (laughs).’
The fan goes to every Canelo fight holding a Benavidez sign – saying Alvarez has been ducking him so far in his career.
First thing is first though, Alvarez has this weekend to get out of the way. Not easy either.
Alvarez said at the Grand Arrivals he doesn’t see this weekend’s fight lasting the distance:
‘Winning by knockout is always wonderful, right? I think I am going to win by knockout before the eighth round.’
Perhaps not a bad wager on round duration, for those inclined.
As for Benavidez, he will be watching this weekend’s fight closely.
Patiently waiting for that big fight that boxing fans want.
Hopefully it can happen after this weekend.
No easy task for Alvarez first up, mind you.
