Gervonta Davis: I Love Leonard – I Don’t Like Floyd (Mayweather)

Gervonta Davis I Love Leonard (Ellerbe) - I Don't Like Floyd (Mayweather)

Going into one of the biggest stars in boxing’s latest fight, not all appears to be well between Gervonta Davis and one Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather’s one time protégé ‘Tank’ has gone his own way reportedly in recent years.

The two had some sort of falling out and Davis apparently is still no fan of Mayweather.

Speaking to EsNews and others at the pre-fight press conference Davis said:

“I love Leonard (Ellerbe), I don’t like Floyd (Mayweather), mother******. I like Leonard.”

Leonard Ellerbe being the head of Mayweather Promotions.

What happened between Davis and Mayweather though?

Let’s go over a quick run down.

The Cold War in Boxing: Gervonta Davis vs. Floyd Mayweather

The once-close relationship between boxing stars Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Floyd “Money” Mayweather has taken a turn for the icy in recent years.

Revealing a rift that goes beyond mere professional differences.

A Relationship Gone Sour

Once a mentor and protégé, the bond between Davis and Mayweather began to unravel after Davis’ departure from Mayweather Promotions reportedly some time ago.

While initially amicable, the split grew increasingly contentious, with Davis openly expressing his frustrations on social media and in interviews.

Money vs. Tank: A Clash of Personalities

The heart of the feud seems to lie in their contrasting personalities. Mayweather, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and calculated business moves, has often been criticized for prioritizing financial gain over the sport’s purity.

Davis, a younger, more brash fighter, seemingly resents what he perceives as Mayweather’s overbearing influence and control, quite likely.

Davis’ Accusations and Mayweather’s Response

The feud escalated with Davis accusing Mayweather of attempting to sabotage his career by interfering with potential fights and spreading negative rumors.

Mayweather, however, has remained relatively tight-lipped, occasionally responding with cryptic social media posts or vague comments in interviews.

The Impact on Boxing

This ongoing feud has captured the attention of boxing fans worldwide.

Some see it as a classic case of a protégé outgrowing his mentor, while others view it as a clash of egos driven by money and power.

Regardless of the underlying reasons, it’s clear that the tension between Davis and Mayweather has created a new layer of intrigue within the sport.

The Future of the Feud

While both fighters (Mayweather now retired) continue to focus on their respective careers, the animosity between them shows no signs of abating.

The boxing world watches with bated breath, wondering if this cold war will ever thaw.

Mayweather to this day remains very quiet on the whole thing.
