A lot is happening in the boxing world right now with more clarity coming all the time on what is happening involving the likes of Floyd Mayweather and more.
For years, Floyd Mayweather and Leonerd Ellerbe worked side by side to build Mayweather into one of the biggest stars in the sport’s history. Then Ellerbe became the CEO of Mayweather Promotions.
An announcement this week from the company thanked Ellerbe for his services and confirmed he is stepping down.
However, it is thought he may still be staying on, in boxing, just with Gervonta Davis to work alongside him in Davis’ GTD Promotions.
This continues the trend of active, young current world level champions starting their own promotional companies such as Errol Spence recently too.
What’s more. There is more.
Mayweather at the same time while not confirming long time boxing player Richard Schaefer as the new CEO, has confirmed he’s partnering with him. That’s big.
Many credit Schaefer as a key man in the career of Mayweather and of making him the star he became.
Changing, Big Times For The Sport
De La Hoya was less than flattering in his reaction to the whole thing here. Saying it was “Dumb”.
Schaefer previously was the CEO of De La Hoya’s promotional company Golden Boy Promotions. There’s still a lot of bad blood on that surely from De La Hoya.
Many credit Schaefer as again, the key man behind the scenes, who built the company to the heights of what it became. Schaefer also having a lot of success promoting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez before he left De La Hoya too.
So much to digest in the world of boxing with some of the above. A lot of big moves going on ahead of Gervonta Davis’ big fight against Frank Martin tonight.
A fight that kicks off huge things for the sport on steaming Juggernaut Amazon Prime no less as part of PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) new partnership with Jeff Bezos’ company.
One constant remains true however despite all the leaving, chopping and changes.
Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions continues to work with all of the above (and other platforms like DAZN recently) still on different fights, and so on, in various aspects.
Good old Al still tipping away as always.
PBC will look to use Davis’ this weekend to hopefully make things bigger than ever for boxing with Amazon Prime.
It’s a big opportunity for boxing this Amazon Prime deal. Anyone who supports boxing will want it to do well.
Al Haymon’s PBC: The Steady Hand Amidst Boxing’s Shifting Landscape
Alas, the boxing world is in flux, with major players like Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya making headline-grabbing moves.
Yet, once again, one factor remains since the whole initial changes were brought to boxing maybe a decade ago (before DAZN, ESPN plus, Saudis ant others): Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
While others engage in power plays and public spats, PBC continues to quietly expand its influence, solidifying its position as one of the players in the sport.
Their quietness is really impressive. Quite excellent no less.
Mayweather Promotions Shakeup
This week the departure of Leonard Ellerbe as CEO of Mayweather Promotions has sent shockwaves through the industry.
However, PBC remains unfazed, as it has always maintained a collaborative relationship with various promoters, including Mayweather Promotions.
This flexibility allows PBC to work with individual fighters like Gervonta Davis, even as their promotional allegiances shift.
It is important more outfits, networks and promoters remain flexible to work together to make the best fights. Look at Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren and the Saudis recently too. Tremendous for the sport and getting the fights made.
Unify it all. Make it bigger than ever. Worldwide.
Golden Boy Drama and Schaefer’s Return
The reunion of Mayweather and Richard Schaefer, a key figure in Mayweather’s rise to stardom, has reignited old rivalries and added another layer of intrigue to the boxing scene.
While Oscar De La Hoya, Schaefer’s former partner at Golden Boy Promotions, has publicly criticized the move, PBC continues to operate above the fray, working with many in boxing.
The Amazon Prime Partnership: A Game Changer
Perhaps the most significant development for PBC is its new multi-year deal with Amazon Prime Video.
This partnership gives PBC access to a massive global audience, potentially revolutionizing the way boxing is consumed. T
The first major event under this deal, featuring Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin tonight, is a highly anticipated litmus test for the future of boxing on streaming platforms.
Al Haymon’s Master Plan
Throughout the chaos and drama, Al Haymon remains the mastermind behind PBC.
His ability to forge strategic partnerships, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain relationships with key figures in the sport is a testament to his business acumen.
While others are focused on short-term gains and personal vendettas, Haymon is playing the long game, positioning PBC for continued success in the ever-evolving boxing landscape.
Haymon cannot deny that the Saudis have revolutionized the sport in recent years, moreover.
The PBC Advantage
PBC’s ability to work with multiple promoters and fighters, its vast roster of talent, and its new partnership with Amazon Prime still make it a formidable force in the boxing world, indeed.
The organization’s focus on delivering high-quality fights to a global audience is a winning formula that has allowed it to thrive in the industry’s constant growth in new avenues in recent years.
The Future of Boxing
As the boxing world continues to evolve, PBC is poised to remain at the forefront of innovation and growth. Streaming is key and Amazon are far bigger than DAZN, maybe ten times the size of their company.
It’s a big move tonight, Davis and boxing on Amazon, without question.
The PBC organization’s unwavering commitment to the sport, coupled with its strategic vision and adaptability, still can make it a key player in shaping the future of boxing.
It is not all pay per view either with Amazon Prime and PBC, like some such as Hall of Famer Bob Arum was concerned about recently.
No, no.
Dan Rafael reports PBC are looking at a big non pay-per view card as soon as August. Either August 10 or August 12 involving Caleb Plant vs Stephen Fulton.
Let that sink in.
Boxing, big time world championship professional boxing, is in a better place than ever before as a sport.
Worldwide in all nations.
