Muhammad Ali’s grandson has been doing well in professional boxing in recent years on his own two feet, stepping outside his legendary grandfather.
Everyone knows Muhammad Ali. Many believe he’s not only the greatest heavyweight of all time but the best boxer of all time.
His grandson Nico Ali Walsh turned pro in recent years and bounced back in fine fashion from his first pro loss recently.
He’s taken exception to the Jake Paul’s of the world however and views himself as more of a throwback fighter.
Where the money will follow off of genuine worth in the ring. Not artificial marketability.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Nico Ali Walsh said:
“My name transcends boxing. You get people who are like influencers, the clown show people who are trying to be in boxing but the Ali name transcends just the sport of boxing. So everyone knows the Ali name. So a lot of guys try to gravitate to me to try to chase off the clout the name has. What sucks for me is if I was trying to chase the influencers route. I’m certain I’d make millions going that route but it would not be anything of substance. Title fights, going for fighters where there’s risk. That’s something of substance. That’s what creates legacy. At the end of the day that’s what I’m in boxing for.”
Walsh’s current record stands at 9-1-5 KO. He returns to action next week in Miami, Florida, June 29th.
Taking on the man who gave him his first pro loss in a rematch, Sona Akale. Who is also 9-1.
Walsh has shown tremendous promise so far and fighting out of Las Vegas under the Top Rank banner, if he bounces back well, a big story could unfold here if guided correctly.
Stepped up into more genuinely dangerous fights at the right time.
Key to the 23-year-old middleweight’s professional boxing development.
