The numbers are in for pay per view sales for Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin and they are not great for a number of reasons.
Granted, Frank Martin was not a big name fighter at all. No one really knew him outside of hardcore boxing fans.
Tank is a big name on his own right but still needs a dance partner reports boxing insider on X Rick Glaser who said the fight sold:
- The fight sold slightly less than 150,000 buys on Amazon Prime
- Price point too high for a non-name opponent
- Too many pay per views this year in boxing
- Piracy another big issue for low pay per view sales
- Davis needs Lomachenko for his next fight to do a good pay per view offereing
Some interesting points to go through there.
The online piracy effecting boxing and professional sports events on pay per view now seems to be at an all-time high.
Only growing too.
The tech platforms will need to come up with a new game plan entirely on piracy surely.
Hopefully the Davis vs Lomachenko fight happens next up as that’s what will sell on Amazon Prime.
