Some boxing industry insiders reported recently rather low numbers for Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin but expert Dan Rafael disagrees.
Rafael is usually not too far off what the final numbers are around.
After all, how it works in pay per view boxing is it takes time for the numbers from the different pay per view outlets to accumulate and trickle in.
Weeks and months sometimes after the fight.
Rafael says the Davis vs Martin fight in Vegas on Amazon Prime recently did between between 325,000 and 350,000 buys just in the United States on platforms available.
That’s not bad.
That doesn’t include the UK numbers or the other countries the fight was sold.
Not bad considering no one really heard of Frank Martin, with the greatest of respect, outside of hardcore boxing fans.
Ryan Garcia has also revealed now the dust has settled that his fight with Haney recently did between 400,000 and 500,000 pay per view buys just in the US.
He didn’t say what the other countries’ numbers were.
Those numbers are okay but really should have been higher.
Maybe the promotion of the fight could have been a little better.
After all Garcia and Gervonta Davis last year did 1.2 million plus buys just in the US.
If you match the fighters correctly they sell.
For instance, Shakur Stevenson who is a free agent after his fight this month if he steps in there with one of these big names, would sell big.
Only if put in with one of the pound for pound or champion names though.
Same for Gervonta Davis.
He needs for Amazon Prime’s interest too — to be put in there with someone like Lomachenko next up.
