Shakur Stevenson said he wants the best fighters in the division after his win tonight and, well, be careful what you wish for.
As they say.
Stevenson won a unanimous points verdict in New Jersey tonight and afterwards as Michael Benson reports, one of Davis’ coaching team said Lomachenko has communicated to them that he will step aside to allow Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis happen this year.
And that he would fight the winner in 2025 afterwards.
What a brilliant scenario that would be and a win-win for all the fighters.
And not least the fans too.
Lomachenko recently stopped George Kambosos Jr. in Australia.
Showing he is still near the top of the boxing game.
After the fight tonight Stevenson wore a t-shirt on why he is now a free agent from Bob Arum’s Top Rank (who also promote Lomachenko):
“Bob is saving is son from this ***-whooping” as he becomes a free agent after his win over Artem Harutyunyan.”
Where Stevenson goes after Top Rank and Arum will certainly be interesting.
Potentially if he went to PBC where Davis’ also boxes on, in some form, the fight could be made easily this year.
What a fight and what a sell it would be too of two young pound for pound lions.
