Amir Khan knows all about the politics internally of boxing and getting world title shots and has let loose on some things about Pacquiao vs Barrios.
The fight is possible for a world title by the end of the year by the WBC organization.
Khan however almost hints at corruption with how easy Pacquiao is getting the shot.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground podcast Amir Khan said:
“So I’ve sparred Barrios a few times he used to train with me. Barrios is a really nice kid. Quite lean. Like a tall, straight forward boxer.”
He added on Pacquiao vs Barrios possibly being mandated by the WBC soon:
“Look if I wanted to fight for a title they can get that done for me straight away. I used to get WBC, WBO, IBBF, WBC, all telling me do you want to fight for a world title? Which world title do you want to fight for and we’ll sanction it for you? The thing is they want big sanctioning fees as well. They are going to be getting paid as well. That is the reason.”
Strong words from Khan.
Khan chased the Pacquiao fight for years during his active boxing career but it never happened.
Maybe Khan is still a little disappointed about this.
Maybe it comes across in his words a little bit.
Khan has been retired the last couple of years since losing by knockout to Kell Brook in 2022.
Khan never got the Pacquiao or Mayweather fights but chased them for years.
A terrific career however. One of the most exciting and courageous fighters of his generation.
Pacquiao is a boxing legend though and has won world titles in eight weight divisions, if anyone deserves an exception it is surely him or someone like Floyd Mayweather?
If pound for pound greats like them want to come back and fight for a title?
Pacquiao fights on July 28th first up this month in RIZIN in a three-round bout in Japan.
