Mike Tyson Reveals Cus D'Amato Brutal Reaction To 8 Second Knockout

This is the legendary trainer of Tyson’s ruthless, off the wall advice in his younger days after a win.

Most people would think that an 8 seconds first round knockout victory is as good as it gets in boxing.

Not the case it would seem if your trainer was Cus D’amato. Speaking to Brut Sport in France Tyson said D’Amato praised him but was very hard on him:

“( I won) Because he believed in me more than I believed in myself. I didn’t believe I was going to be this great fighter. Conquer the world, have all this money, have all these women. Going to have everything you want. Nobody will ever say no to you. He would say these things, there’s going to come a time when nobody is ever go to say no to you so you have to learn how to decipher the good people from the bad. Because the time is going to come when no one will ever say no to you.”

He continued:

“I knocked out a guy in 8 seconds. He said that wasn’t good enough. The guy could have hit you if he was smarter and tougher. 8 seconds! Do you know how long 8 seconds is? And he still said I made mistakes. Big time (he was a father figure), that’s the only father figure I ever knew. But he wasn’t easy with me. He was always on my back. I didn’t have no easy time with him as a mentor. He was on my back.”

Wow.

That gives you an insight into the level of preparation that D’Amato demanded of Tyson in his younger prime days.
