At times the boxing world collectively sighs. A fight that everyone wants at this point.
Why? Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion, continues to dance around, basically, a potential showdown with David Benavidez.
It is the real fight fans want.
It’s a frustrating scenario to say the least that leaves fans questioning the champion’s true intentions sometimes.
He’s not afraid of anyone but at this point, the fight really needs to happen.
Benavidez, is a hungry young contender with a knockout punch and a relentless, marauding style.
He seems like the perfect fight for Canelo. That style suits Alvarez.
When it does happen It’s a matchup that promises fireworks. A clash of styles that may sure produce a modern classic.
Yet Canelo appears content to pursue other options for now. Nothing clear cut yet.
The longer Canelo waits, the more the brilliance of the fight fades. It needs to happen now. Not down the road.
Benavidez, though undeniably talented, risks losing momentum and relevance if he’s continually denied his shot at the crown. It’s a disservice to both fighters and the sport itself to put it frankly.
Alas, one can only hope that Canelo reconsiders.
That maybe he embraces the challenge and gives the fans the fight they want more than any with him in.
Not only that, it’s a genuine chance to create history.
To solidify his status as an all-time great, not just in Mexico, but of all time.
and to remind everyone why boxing is the sweet science.
Hopefully he won’t let the opportunity slip away.
