Speaking at a press conference for his next upcoming fight against John Gotti III Mayweather said:
“Well I take my hat off to guys like Muhammad Ali because they paved the way to be where I am today. So I’m happy to take my hat off to a legend that. My career was a little bit different. When you look at Muhammad Ali’s career when he was 36 he lost to Leon Spinks and then when I was 36 fought a young lion like Canelo. Leon Spinks at that particular time, I think he had 6 wins and 1 draw when he fought Muhammad Ali. And when I fought Canelo he was 23 (years old) with the same amount of fights. I think he had like 43, 44 fights when we faced each other.”
He added:
“So, Ali at 36 and a Floyd Mayweather at 36, I think were two different fighters. Because the first thing I learned from my father was the less you get hit the longer you are able to last in the sport of boxing.”
Interesting and quite objective analysis when you really read and analyse (impartially) statistically what he is saying there.
A lot to consider.

Two very different boxing styles, obviously.
It should be noted Mayweather influenced the career of Canelo majorly.
Ali a brilliant boxer too but was often drawn into brawls and blood and guts battles.
Mayweather always kept out of trouble largely and when he did get into some trouble, it was not for long and managed to get out of harms way and regroup quite quickly mid fight.
