7 Reasons Why Manny Pacquiao Is The Greatest Asian Boxer Of All Time

manny pacquiao

When you think of some of the best Asian boxers of all-time modern day fighters like Inoue of Japan come to mind.

Inoue indeed is chasing greatness as whom many regard as the best Japanese boxer that ever lived already.

He will look to solidify that thought next week against TJ Doheny in Japan.

However, Indonesia’s Chris John also deserves a mention not far off too.

John held the WBA featherweight for an incredible nine years and made sixteen defences.

When it comes to the best boxer ever from Asia however there is no disputing Manny Pacquiao from the Philippines as the number one — here’s why:

  • Only eight-division world champion in history.
  • Transcended the sport in his country running for President.
  • Transcended the sport worldwide giving back to humanity in ways very few boxers or sportsmen ever have.
  • The ultimate rags to riches story — when he was a child he ran away from home after his father ate the family dog out of starvation.
  • Aged only 12 on his own he then went to the capital of his country (Manilla) to become a boxer and the rest was history.
  • Pacquiao was part of the most-watched boxing match in history against Floyd Mayweather in 2015 with 4.6 million pay per views in the US alone.
  • The richest fight in history which Pacquiao was part of generated more revenue worldwide than any single fight in history. It is estimated the fight generated $1.2 billion worldwide across all nations.

All in all, Inoue is chasing greatness but has a long way to go to catch up to the legendary “Pacman”.
