There is surely only one name for now when it comes to who the greatest Mexican fighter (and boxer) ever is.
That’s Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
For now, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is still relatively young for an active professional fighter and is still competing in the sport with Chavez being retired a while.
Even still, at the recent Mayweather boxing event in Mexico (that also featured fighters like Curmel Moton and Victor Ortiz on the card) Chavez was treated like royalty:

“Incredible how there are those who continue to support me for the memory of their parents or grandparents who watch me and tell them the story of THE GREAT MEXICAN CHAMPION”
Indeed.
Mexico continues to produce many of the good prospects in professional boxing in Latin America.
