Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis defended his world title again at the weekend and moves on once again.
Ennis has been impressing everyone in boxing and won a unanimous points decision over Karen Chukhadzhian at the weekend in Philadelphia.
Speaking after the fight he said at the presser via Fight Hub:
“Listen, I think it’s a great fight. Virgil—uh, sorry—Boots knows he’s got to be better than he was tonight against a fighter like Virgil Ortiz. But the training will be different, the mindset will be different, and the challenge will be different. That’s when you’ll see the best of a great fighter like Boots. So, you know, I really respect Virgil Ortiz. I love Robert Garcia, and Oscar De La Hoya is a bit of a plonker. But we gotta make sure—I’ll be telling Boots—we can’t afford to lose that fight. I can’t lose to that guy. No way. If you don’t win that fight, I’ll never talk to you again. But we won’t lose; we won’t do that. You know, like I said, the better the competition, the better I’m going to be. And all I do is go for it. You know I love pressure.
Fighters… listen, there’s always a price, but I just want to watch him fight Virgil Ortiz. Obviously, there’s a lot of talk about it, and we’ll be moving forward to potentially make that fight happen.
Last question, guys, what’s the… oh, right—Plonker… I don’t know the word in America for that. Just, uh, what word would you guys use? Just a prick, really, to be honest with you. You know what I mean? Listen, jokes aside, Oscar’s one of the greatest fighters of all time, so I give him respect. And I don’t mind this “clap back Thursday” stuff. He’s a bit weird, but he’s a character. Everyone talks about him, and him against me—not in the ring, but with our fighters—there are so many great fights to make. Shakur vs. Zepeda is pretty much done. Boots vs. Ortiz, Ramirez vs. Opiya, another Ramirez vs. Catell, Pacho against… he said Munguía, but Munguía left him, so we can’t do that. But there are loads of other fights out there to be made. I just want to make the best fights and the best cards. So, jokes aside with Oscar, we can make a tremendous night for the sport, and that’s what his Excellency wants to do. I do believe you’ll see these fights come together on February 22nd.
Eddie, just one really quick one—Kean last night. Yeah, that performance, him vs. Tank—what do you think about that fight?
Look, I love Kean. I think he’s a great fighter. He’s getting better and better every time. You can’t take too much away from the fact that a fighter came in 7 pounds over, or 6 or 5 pounds over, or whatever it was. That’s not because they’re struggling with the weight, but because their camp broke down. So, I don’t think it was the same Lemos that fought Richardson Hitchins. But I think that’s irrelevant—Kean demolished him, and that’s what you’ve got to do sometimes. You’ve got to go in there and do your thing. The crowd looked great in Norfolk, Virginia—it was great for boxing. Kean’s a great young fighter, and in time, I think he’ll be a great fight for Tank Davis. But he still lost three times to Andy Cruz, our fighter. He never beat Andy Cruz, and Jaron Ennis can confirm that. Boots can confirm that because he trains with Andy Cruz. So, if Kean wants a fight before Tank Davis, sign us up for Andy Cruz. He took him to school three times and would be ready to do it again.
And on that note… I’ll take a couple of questions.
Oh, last word? I just appreciate everybody who’s been tuning in and watching me. You know, the next fight will be better. We’ll put on a show, continue to get better, keep developing. Stay tuned. Thanks from Philadelphia.”
The 27-year-old maybe was not at his best on Saturday night but you get nights like that.
He’ll be back and has solid people around him.
