Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson was a big hit as an event at the gate in Arlington, Texas in what was a huge success overall for the sport and Netflix.
The main event okay was not great but the undercard was tremendous.
What’s more Tyson hung in there until the last bell and came away from the thing healthy and paid, good enough.
Here is what the gate came in at per Michael Benson:
“Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson has generated a gate (money from ticket sales) of over $17.8million from an expected 70,000+ crowd, Paul’s MVP have announced. This is almost double the $9million Texas gate record previously set by Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders.”
Not bad at all.
Paul said it was the biggest American gate in boxing history outside of Vegas and he was right with the above.
Big numbers.
It will be interesting to see how Netflix did on the night with people tuning in.
It was mentioned a lot by those on social media and YouTube just before round one Netflix experienced some downtime due to the server being overwhelmed.
That is not easy to do to the Netflix server, rest assured. You are talking a crazy amount of live users on the platform to do that last night.
A monster of a success of an event for Netflix and the numbers will show that given the fact it nearly crashed their server.
As for Paul, he needs to be put in there with a legitimate professional boxer like Tommy Fury again and put on Netflix again.
