Young boxing star Curmel Moton unfortunately missed weight by a lot this weekend and had his fight pulled.
He missed it by a total of 15.7 pounds but former world champion Danny Garcia was quick to cool critics due to his age.
Speaking to Fight Hype Garcia said:
“Kevin Garcia: Alright, I’ve got to get your thoughts on the Curmel (Moton) situation. What do you think happened there?
Danny Garcia: You know, I think it was just a miscommunication. That’s really all it was. A lot of people were quick to blame him, but he’s young, and we’re a new promoter. Maybe there was some confusion. He thought his blood work didn’t pass, and I guess he thought he wasn’t fighting. I don’t know exactly what came up in his blood work, but he probably thought he wasn’t fighting. But I was under the impression that he was still going to try to make weight and then wait for the blood work to clear. If everything passed, the fight would go on. If not, it would be off. So I think there was a breakdown in communication somewhere. Somebody might’ve told him he wasn’t fighting, and that’s why he didn’t push to make weight. But from my understanding, the fight was never off. It was just a miscommunication. At the end of the day, we’re a new promoter, and he’s a young fighter. That’s all it was—miscommunication.”
Sensible analysis from Garcia.
Moton will come back from this, quality fighter with a bright future.
As for Garcia he lost to Erislandy Lara of Cuba last time out back in September.
Hopefully his comeback opponent in 2025 will be confirmed soon pending on what he decides to do.
At 36 Garcia still has plenty of years left yet if he chooses to fight on near the top level of the sport.
