Undefeated New Yorker Richardson Hitchins is making a lot of noise lately in the sport and in a good way.
He’s 18-0-7 KO fights for the IBF World Super Lightweight championship this weekend against unbeaten Australian Liam Paro (25-0-15KO) in Puerto Rico.
Gervonta Davis is in the news a lot this week, not least for talks of wanting to retire and focus on family in 2025.
Speaking to Fight Hype he said of it all:
“Also, speaking of fights, yesterday we had Tank in your city. We were supposed to do it at 1:00, but they changed it to 4:00. The guy didn’t show up until 6:15. What are your thoughts on Tank versus Lamont Roach and how late Tank was yesterday?
I didn’t even know he was that late. Tank’s a boss, though. He does what he wants. He’s the face of boxing. When you’re the face of boxing, they need you. You don’t need anybody else. Did you hear what he said yesterday? Yeah, he’s getting out. I know he’s always been whispering that to me behind closed doors, like he doesn’t have much time left. But now him announcing it to the media, it sounds real. It feels real.
Looking at Tank, someone you respect a lot, if he fights Lamont Roach in March, do you think he’ll do two more fights after that, or just one, and then say goodbye? Who do you think some of his potential opponents could be next year before he retires?
I don’t really know. The only fight I want to see before he retires is Shakur Stevenson. I don’t really care about anybody else he fights. I can’t think of anyone else at 135 who sparks a mega fight for me, besides Shakur. That’s the only fight I really want to see him in.
You want to see Tank fight Shakur?
Yes, definitely.
Do you think it can happen?
It’s up to Tank. If Tank wants to fight, he’s in the position to make the fight happen, but we’ll see what he does.”
Indeed it is a great fight if they can make it in 2025.
A real throwback fight pitting two young undefeated champions against one another.
A fight worthy of pay per view if ever there was one, Davis vs Stevenson.
On this weekend’s boxing world title fight above note, Hitchins vs Paro, what a scrap in store of two gifted unbeaten fighters from the opposite side of the world fighting for the title in San Juan this weekend.
