Recently Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis said he likely will make 2025 his last year in the sport of boxing.
Something that took boxing fans and those in boxing a bit off guard no less.
He cited not wanting to be living with fame and living a more simple life and going back to studying and further education.
That said, what a run it has been if that is in fact what he is looking to do.
Why else is he considering it?
Well, he has done well from the sport financially and realistically he wants to leave with all his faculties intact surely.
At 30-years-old he is very young by today’s standards of professional athletes who know compete into their early 40s at the highest level, given the improvements in sports science and nutrition.
He is also 30-0-28 KO so his fight on Mar 1 2025 with Lamont Roach represents one of the last times he will look to extend that unbeaten streak.
Retiring undefeated, with smart money and faculties intact are likely the core reasons behind his thinking at this particular time.
Never say never though.
If they offer him big fights anything can happen.
