This trend is growing all the time in recent years and is set to continue in 2025 as both sports continue to get closer to one another in fanbase.
The reason for this is two-fold, essentially.
Quintessentially, rather, there are both demographical and technological reasons behind what is happening in the massive transformation underway not only in boxing but in online sports content and media consumption.
The rapid decline of both print, radio and TV continues as well as the rapid decline of legacy media (old media brands online) continues — as new media continues to takeover.
Online streaming, new devices, the changing internet and AI, coupled with a younger fan base and a new one being added, to boxing, and MMA, is seeing fans a bit more and more watch both sports.
However, everything is star-driven, ultimately, in boxing (and MMA/UFC).
The likes of Darren Till of the UK, a big name MMA fighter not over the hill, fighting in boxing again later this month in Manchester (not against Tommy Fury though) against Anthony Taylor on a Misfits Boxing card, kicks this proven trend off again in early 2025 this year.
People like Jake Paul as a YouTube and promoter — and legends of both sports, such as Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen and more fighting in boxing in 2024 — also show this trend gathering more pace.
From a promotional standpoint, the likes of Dana White working more with Saudi advisor Turki Alalshikh and others in boxing also sees this growing all the time.
