Boxer Who Survived Cancer To Comeback To Professional Boxing Produces Brilliant Award Speech

The sport of boxing at the highest level in professional boxing produces at times iron men that very few sports in history ever come close to.

Some of these fighters inspire many outside the world of professional sport of course, that’s why boxing is such a popular sport throughout the ages.

Billy Dib beat cancer in recent times to win the Comeback of the Year this weekend at the Ring Magazine awards in London.

Speaking from London Australian Dib said:

“Wow. Thank you so much. I got a little bit of a speech. I wasn’t sure if I was going to win it but thank you very much. Ladies and gentlemen, you will recall that a great man said these words, if a man can conceive it, if my heart can believe it, then my heart can achieve it, the greatest, Muhammad Ali.”

He later added:

“It was all the years of training and going through the trenches that prepared me for the fight of my life (beating cancer). Through God’s mercy, the discipline I gained in the ring, the doctors, the unwavering support of my family, friends in the boxing world, I am here today. I found the strength to stay alive and push forward and boxing gave me the platform to inspire and be inspired.”

A quite extraordinary individual who once again showed how special a sport boxing truly is at the highest level.

Many would be dead from the cancer, certainly not walking and up and about.

But to comeback to the highest level of the most brutal sport of all, professional boxing, the fight and hurt business, to then win three times in 2024 and now be on the verge of contending for a world title again, unbelievable.

Believe it. That is reality now.

He showed impossible is nothing. Some of these professional fighters are cut from a different cloth.

There is a big difference between professional and amateur boxing, and amateur and professional sport, they are leagues, leagues apart.

The above man shows in boxing once again why.

Good fighter Dib.

Kudos to him on the award.

Well deserved.

Well done also to WBC boss Mauricio Sulaimán of Mexico also for his support of him during the cancer phase that he conquered.
