One women’s world boxing champion is spot on and clears the air on something that she made very clear, alas.
As boxing grows worldwide in the East and West and moves towards the pinnacle of all worldwide sport, it is important the women are appropriately compensated too.
Terry ‘Belter’ Harper said of this on X:
“I’m a 3 weight world champion and 200k for an all British unification on 7 weeks notice is not enough money for me to risk my health making the weight. From what I remember my promoter offered BOXXER twice that for the NJ rematch
Pay me my worth with fair notice and you have a fight”
Spot on. Obviously the women will never be paid as much as the men world champion boxers as that is simple market supply and demand, as there is much more interest in the highest level of men’s world title action, the above is more than correct from Harper.
Something that the likes of Turki Alalshikh and others will surely consider moving forward as the sport goes into boom time in 2025 and beyond worldwide in a new golden age for the sport.
Claressa Shields is the number one women’s boxer in the world and is a legit big star, it must also be noted, Shields recently mentioned to Turki Alalshikh on X recently to not forget about the women boxers.
On Harper, a fight with Caroline Dubois is wanted by boxing fans but both of them will need to be appropriately compensated.
