People may not like that Tyson Fury is retired, but he is, so this is what handlers are looking at now instead.
For Anthony Joshua that is.
Joshua who was knocked out brutally by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last year, was being lined up for Fury but Fury has genuinely retired from the sport this year.
Now per Boxing Kingdom via Lance Pugmire on X, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed a Joshua vs Wilder fight is being looked at:
“Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Anthony Joshua is considering fighting Deontay Wilder next. [@pugboxing]”
That will actually be a much bigger fight for Joshua, Hearn and for the sport, it will make Joshua much more money (and Hearn) than the Fury fight would have as well.
Joshua vs Fury was mainly a UK and Europe thing but Joshua vs Wilder is the big one of the two — and is more exciting giving the better clash of fight styles it will produce.
This is a real fight for boxing fans in the heavyweight division this one — even at this stage.
Bad blood from the failed talks to make the fight years ago is there still too — give boxing fans a war with this fight at heavyweight in 2025.
