It is understandable that David Benavidez and his father, and his team, are not too fond of Canelo. His father is brutally honest below.
Next weekend is the big one — David Benavidez vs David Morrell.
Canelo Alvarez has avoided fighting Benavidez for years and is now in talks for a super fight with Terence Crawford instead, at least for now, never say never on the Benavidez fight down the road though.
Speaking to Fight Hype Benavidez’s father thinks it is an embarrassment for Canelo to fight someone much smaller like Crawford:
“The only comment I’d make is that I would be embarrassed to even ask for that fight for David Benavidez. I just think David is too big, and Canelo is too big, you know? I don’t think it’s a fair fight or an equal fight. Canelo is simply too big for Terence Crawford.”
Crawford is not the average smaller fighter in the fight, though.
Crawford is one of the best boxers of his time, maybe of any time.
Crawford thrives on challenges — so does Canelo.
It is a fight the public are buying into because of the sheer absurdity for Crawford to try to go up to 168 lbs. with no re-hydration clause either, allowing Canelo to weigh anything on fight night essentially.
At least that is what is being discussed at the moment.
