Teddy Atlas is one of the best analysts in the boxing game, he gives his take on a possible Canelo vs Crawford fight below.
A super fight in the sport being discussed for 2025 at this particular time.
Speaking on his podcast Atlas said:
“So before you assume Canelo is just going to walk through Crawford, consider what Crawford brings to the table: speed, defense, angles, adaptability, and a refusal to lose. He hasn’t learned how to lose yet, and that mindset, combined with his skills, makes him dangerous.
Canelo is great, but I think Crawford is even more special. He has that intangible quality—the mental toughness and the ability to rise above challenges. That’s what separates him.
Now, there’s still one big question: the weight. Has it been determined yet? Is it going to be a catchweight? I doubt Canelo moves down from 168 at this stage of his career. If Crawford wants this fight, he’s likely going to have to meet him at 168. That’s a big factor, and we’ll have to wait for more details to fully assess it.
For now, though, I’m not going against Crawford. I believe in his unique abilities and his will to win.”
Big call by Atlas.
Crawford will go into that fight — like Canelo did when stepping up in weight against Dmitry Bivol — a big underdog.
Weight classes are there for a reason.
If anyone can do it though surely ‘Bud’ can.
What a fight it would be if they can make it happen.
