Boxing is buzzing at the moment with world title fights everywhere but something is up with these two.
In 2024 Floyd Mayweather named Richard Schaefer as the new CEO of his boxing promotional company, Mayweather Promotions.
Former CEO Leonard Ellerbe stepped back from the role and the company.
Mayweather did an exhibition in Mexico that wasn’t really promoted at all, either by him or DAZN who showed the fight.
That’s all Schaefer and Mayweather have basically done together so far — last August in Mexico.
Since then, boxing has been getting lots of new announcements for world title fights and this weekend another case in point — the David Benavidez vs David Morrell and Claressa Shields cards.
But Mayweather Promotions has been awfully quiet this year, nothing announced of note anyway — nor for the back end of last year either.
Watch this space as Mayweather was seen back in a boxing gym recently again watching Shakur Stevenson fight.
Yes Mayweather has many successful interests outside of boxing but boxing is surely something he will give more attention this year in a boom time for the sport in 2025 and in the years ahead.
Schaefer too will surely be more hands on this year with looking to make big fights happen for boxing fans.
