The greatest women’s boxer that ever lived returns to action this weekend and she is still only 29-years-old.
That’s double Olympic gold medallist in the amateurs and world welterweight to world heavyweight women’s champion as a professional, Claressa Shields.
She faces a taller, maybe stronger foe this weekend at heavyweight and recently said of women’s boxing and the nation of the UK to Ariel Helwani:
“I feel like you guys in the UK are trying to monopolize women’s boxing… To me, the best fighters are in America… We have to to keep coming over there to get these fights.”
Interesting take, one that got quite a bit of reaction.
First thing is first, this weekend against Danielle Perkins for Shields.
After that a fight even with Amanda Serrano at 147 lbs. has been mentioned for Shields by Serrano’s promoter Jake Paul if Shields can fight at that weight in the future.
Big fight this weekend first up for Shields however.
Shields will only be 30 on March 17th and has achieved more than any female boxer in history — by some margin — already.
