Not many realize that the former super-middleweight and current light-heavyweight interim world champion (168 lbs.) was once clinically obese.
Weighing a remarkable 260 lbs — it is almost impossible that a world champion boxer was obese, but like Tyson Fury once was, so was Benavidez.
Fury lost over 140 lbs in total but what Benavidez achieved is not far off.
Speaking ahead of his big fight to Fight Hype with David Morrell this weekend in Vegas — Benavidez said of coming down from 260 lbs in his younger days earlier on in life to where he is now:
“To be honest with you, the motivation was just changing my life and being healthier for myself. When you’re that heavy, it’s either two ways it could go; you could go to a point of no return, or you could clean your life up and live healthier because obesity isn’t a joke, and it can really take over your life and will take over all your dreams. So, it was just me trying to be a healthier individual for myself and having a long life.”
Some achievement.
Not only that to become world champion at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, too.
