There is a big stadium boxing event happening at Chelsea soccer stadium on April 5th in London, England — in a 10 vs 10 USA vs UK boxer show.
The US will be captained by boxing legend Roy Jones Jr – here are the fights on the card:
Boxing News and Views spoke to one of the fighters on the bill, US knockout merchant Zeno Vooris (4-0-4 KO pictured above) who told us of the US vs UK rivalry ahead of the event:
“I think the rivalry began in the 1700s when the United States won their independence from the UK. The US has had far more champions and will continue to have more champions.”
On boxing legend Roy Jones leading the American team:
“I’m a big fan of Roy Jones Junior, he’s one of the greatest boxers to ever live, and it’s an honor to be on the same team as him with him as the team captain.”
Vooris added he first has another fight shortly before the UK stadium show — later this month in Las Vegas February 22nd against US heavyweight Antonio Zepeda at the Westgate Hotel.
Fight one will be at heavyweight this month before he cuts down to cruiserweight for April 5th in the UK to face unbeaten Moldovan Aurel Ignat — Vooris continued:
“The fight this month in Las Vegas is at heavyweight but I’m going to cut back down to cruiserweight because my opponent (Ignat) in London, England has actually fought at heavyweight quite a few times but he’s refused to fight me at heavyweight because he is scared. They want me to be as weak as possible.”
On his heavyweight opponent first up this month he concluded he will be outweighed by a colossal 80 pounds this month in a David vs Goliath fight:
“He’s 6 foot 6 and 300 pounds and I’m only 6 foot 220 pounds . Anytime a man is that big, He’s dangerous . And He has twice as many pro fights as me. I plan to use my smaller size and speed as an advantage, and I know I can punch harder than him even though he has very heavy punches because of his size.”
On the April stadium show in London, these new 5 v 5 and 10 v 10 team/stable formats in boxing have proven to work very well already in the sport since they started in 2024.
Roll on the next one.
