Former world champion Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman returns shortly in a highly anticipated comeback.
Thurman will box on March 12th in Australia against Brock Jarvis but will be coming back from injury — having not fought in over three years since February 2022 when he beat Mario Barrios — before that again it was almost another three years when he last fought losing to Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV Thurman noted:
“No, no, it’s just, you know (on the injury), you get this big old scar, it creates scar tissue, there’s a certain feeling that you know from surgery that you have to live with that you never had to live with before, and so it’s just that 100% you know, this was made by my mother, my father, and the Father above, you know, this was God-made, and now what I’m with is what the doctor gave me in California, you know what I’m saying? So now I’m man-made; before, I was God-made. So you know that’s where that you’re not going back 100%. You know, we had to, and you know, thank God for my surgeon, but it just is what it is, man. It’s life. I had the bone spurs in 2019, the bone fusion in 2016, 2019, and now 2024, man, so you know, I’ve been through a lot in my career, but you know, I just can’t stop doing what I love to do. I mean, that’s life, you know. We hold on to certain people in life because we love them, you know, we never want to let certain people go, we don’t want to let our dogs go, we don’t want to let anything go in life that we have this attachment of true love and devotion, and that’s what people don’t understand about Keith “One Time” Thurman, is the devotion and the love that I have since I’ve been a child when it comes to the sport of boxing. But don’t worry, that reminder is coming real quick.”
Basically Thurman has boxed twice in almost six years.
March will be interesting to see what 36-year-old Thurman has left in terms of fire and motivation.
