Soon, next week Shakur Stevenson, a pound for pound rated fighter — returns to the professional boxing ring.
He fights on the biggest card of the year so far on Feb 22 in Saudi Arabia against Floyd Schofield. He suffered a bad broken hand last year but it is holding up in sparring.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing YouTube Stevenson said during a sparring session:
“I got to stop playing sports. I was training for the Cordina fight and hurt my hand. I was hurting it all throughout the camp. (Feels) Good (now), I felt it just now, but I was trying to ignore the pain and keep going, but it just got worse to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore. I kind of felt it after my last fight; I was like, ‘Man, just ignore it because you’re going to have to keep ignoring it every time you fight.’ You don’t realize it until it gets to the point where you just can’t take it anymore.”
Time will tell under the lights next week how it goes with the hand.
Round one will be the acid test once that first bell goes in a live fight is on.
